Christmas is Almost Here!

It’s all about the season….

Hey there! We have approximately four weeks to Christmas! Yeah! Aren’t we grateful! For me, Christmas means three things: thankful, celebration, and planning. In the light of being gracious for spending more than three hundred days, and when we are lost in celebration with family and friends, we mustn’t forget to plan ahead. Don’t we all agree? So hop in my Maserati, and let’s take a short ride.

Thankful

There are so many things we ought to be thankful for in 2020 despite the odds that met us this year. We all need to be grateful for the gift of life. At least most of us are alive to celebrate another  year in our journey on mother earth. Nothing compares to sound health when so many are sick in the hospital. You should be thankful because your health is your wealth. Also, each day we feel the need to confide in someone and they are available in the likes of family and friends who stand by us through thick and thin. Countless times we were at our lowest point, but they made sure that we didn’t go off the edge, but fought that we became better.

Not to mention the fact that you have a roof over your head, water, and food each day till the end of the year should blow your mind out. There are millions of homeless folks out there that are not too sure where the next meal would come from. Come to think of it, it is simply the grace that kept you in that job or position. Think of the thousands who were retrenched or some who have been out of a job for years. Yeah, you might feel that it isn’t actually the place you envision yourself to be or the salary isn’t worth it at all, but look around and you would have a good reason to hold on tight because that dream job or paycheck is simply a season away.

No, I don’t think I can stop here; I know most of us would be celebrating the anniversary of their business; something that grew out of passion, and now you can sleep with your two eyes closed. Let’s remember those times things were so tight that we didn’t just see an end to it but a dead-end, but all of a sudden, something unimaginable happens and lifts all that burden away. Yeah, we all have something to be thankful for, and this is simply the right season even if you never found out time within the busy year to travel down memory lane.

Celebration

Afterward, when we are done reminiscing on those moments we ought to be grateful for, the next is the celebration of being thankful. One of the most celebrated moments in the world is Christmas. At this period, the weather changes that some would literally say that it smells like Christmas. The stores would be decorated and stock up for the season while some would go the extra mile to place items on sales simply because it is the merry season. Offices would also be decorated, and have a day when all members of staff would be home with their family because they have worked their butt out round the year. Not forgetting the incentives provided during that period. The streets would sparkle and shine bright with Christmas colors. Schools would definitely be closed, and parties held at every corner; all would be at peace simply because it is Christmas: a time to be merry.

In Nigeria, Christmas is a wonder. Most Nigerians take the extra pain to travel home no matter where they find themselves all around the world. This is because the period is mostly enjoyed at home with family and friends. It is that special moment one looks forward to meeting friends after a long time, share a bottle of drink, or just sit around to catch up. Additionally, at home, it is referred to as the festive season because there are a lot of ceremonies and cultural events that take place. For the Igbos, it is the best time to go home to relatives after the hustle and bustle in the city.

Plan

Out of the thankfulness and celebration, for many, this ought to be the right time to withdraw, recollect, and plan for the following year. Although some people live on long term plans, others prefer to do short term due to the inconsistency in an environment which may affect their line of vision. A lot of drawbacks may have accosted one in the year. Probably, there are so many plans that were left executed, and some still in progress. Mapping out time to align what you have roasting on fire won’t be a bad idea at all, don’t you feel so? Having in mind that bills ought to be paid the following year; travel plans may be in the pipeline; you may wish to go on to study to scale up, change career path or jobs. I believe that it is not yet late to start planning ahead if you haven’t started already. It is clear that events in 2020 came at most of us like a bomb, and as a matter of fact, nothing stops one from making the right move ahead because it is action that forges a long age practice of making hay while the sun shines. I suggest you don’t sit right there and wait for the year to come to an end already because this is simply the right time to make that bold move...

Remember one important fact: the clock never stops ticking even in wonderland; time only stands still in fiction; amid the season, you decide how it all begins and ends.
